Frequently Asked Questions

What am I listening to?

The official study audio combines gentle ambient rain, soft instrumental textures, and binaural-beat-style tones in one long-form sleep recording. The goal is consistency: participants use the same recording each study night.

What are binaural beats?

Binaural beats are an auditory effect created when slightly different tones are presented to the left and right ears. Some people use them as part of relaxation or sleep routines. This project does not claim that they diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition.

Do I need headphones?

No. Headphones or a comfortable sleep headband provide the clearest left-right binaural effect, but they are optional. Use a setup that is safe and comfortable for you.

Do I have to watch the screen?

No. Start the official YouTube recording, set the device aside safely, and let the audio play. A dark or black-screen version is preferred for sleep.

What if I already use a CPAP, medication, or another sleep aid?

Keep your normal care unchanged. Do not alter prescribed medication, CPAP use, or other treatment because of this project. The application does not ask for medication names or diagnoses.

What sleep trackers can I use?

Any tracker is fine. Common devices include Apple Watch, Oura Ring, Fitbit, Pixel Watch, Garmin, Samsung Galaxy Watch, and WHOOP. Enter only the values your device actually reports.

What if my device does not report deep sleep or REM?

Leave that field blank or select not available. The main comparison uses simple measurements that nearly everyone can provide.

Is this medical research?

No. It is an independent, non-medical consumer feedback project. It is not medical care, diagnosis, or treatment and is not being presented as a clinical trial.

How will results be used?

Responses may be summarized in de-identified, aggregated form, such as overall averages or percentages. Personally identifying contact information is kept separate from public summaries.
